Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?

My name is Thomas Harding and my love of leading music workshops means that I am dedicated to delivering a quality session to meet with your highest expectation.

What is samba?

Samba is a musical genre from Brazil. The style of Samba we will be playing is Bateria, the percussion ensemble associated with the Mardi Gras and Notting Hill Carnival.

What instruments do you provide?

My percussion workshops are fully resourced with authentic Brazilian percussion, instruments made by Gope, RVM, Contemporanea etc. My didgeridoo workshops are resourced by Cairnesdidge.com. I provide for up to 60 participants and can accommodate more by prior arrangement.

Who have you worked for before?

Please click on my quotes page.

Can we record the session?

Soundbase can record, mix, master and reproduce the high quality recordings. Please contact me for more details.

I have no experience in playing or reading music, will I still be able to participate?

Absolutely! The workshops are practical, achievable and supportive of the learner.

Will I be asked to play on my own?

Not in the samba workshop, unless you are excelling! I ask for volunteers during the didgeridoo workshop to demonstrate and to be coached. But all my workshops are supportive and non-competitive

How long do your sessions last?

Normally between one hour and an hour and a half. However, taster sessions can be arranged, as can "drop in, drop out" and longer sessions for more in depth tuition.

Can we book you for a series of workshops to lead to a performance?

Yes, you can have as many sessions as needed. Some workshops have a performance timetabled into the end of the first session. Groups including Standard Life Assurance and Anglia Polytechnic University have played their first gig after 90 mins tuition!

What is a didgeridoo?

It is an ancient instrument indigenous to Australia, made by termites who hollow out eucalyptus branches. It is a wind instrument and is surprisingly easy to get a satisfying sound out of!

What age groups can you cater for?

All ages. Although some aspects of playing didgeridoo and samba are unsuitable for those under 6 years old. For the younger group I lead a fun and stimulating music workshop which includes percussion, singing and sign language.

Can I book you or your band for performances?

Indeed! I have played didgeridoo on stage, Radio, TV, on the street, in the studio and on the beach. My samba band Samba Ninja will be the highlight of any event.

What do you charge?

Each session is bespoke and so the fees may vary. Concessions may be available for worthy causes.
